The marvelously detailed still lifes and interior views of Mary Mark are linoleum prints, a medium that few artists, other than Picasso, have pursued. -Owen Findsen, The Cincinnati Enquirer
Mark works primarily in linoleum reduction printing, setting negative and positive spaces against each other, resulting in an image emerging from the block over a lengthy period of carving and printing layers of color. The process generally takes months of work before it evolves into her original concept.
Mark trained in painting and printmaking through two bachelor degrees acheived in the 1970s and taught herself handmade papermaking. She sells her work, including handmade paper, linocuts, and oil pastels, in four hundred galleries and frame shops throughout the USA, as well as abroad. Her studio space is located in her home, a 125-year-old church building in New Richmond, OH.
