Because of the timeless beauty of his work, Michael Keane is one of the most sought-after marine artists in the world today. His solo shows on Nantucket sell out year after year and there is a waiting list for any of his new original works.

Keane is a lifelong artist and started painting when he was just a child. He has always had a special affinity for the sight, sound and rhythm of the ever-changing sea. When he was four years old, the first picture he drew was of a boat. While growing up, he filled his grandmother’s home with the ship models that he had made and was given extensive instruction in both oil painting and pastels.

For several decades Keane has dedicated himself solely to painting and has perfected a synthesis of all his facets of learning and experience. He approaches his art on one level in a workmanlike manner, and on another level with the highest artistic ideals in mind. To him, each painting should be special and elegant. His technical and engineering skills, coupled with his extensive fine arts background, make him uniquely qualified as a fine marine artist in the American tradition.

Keane has won numerous awards and honors for his paintings, including the Official Artist for Operation Sail 2000’s Commemorative Magazine and the F. J. Schaefer Award of Excellence at the Mystic International Juried Show. His original works and limited edition prints have been in museum exhibitions along both coasts of the United States. They are proudly displayed in private collections, corporate collections and galleries around the world. Keane and his works have been featured in Yachting, Motorboating & Sailing, U.S. Art, Sea Classics, Cape Cod Life and various other publications.
